Weird fashion trends.
« on: October 24, 2010, 11:46:04 AM »
I just got back from a vacation in Chicago. Being an outsider from the hay fields of WI, some of the fashion trends are just strange.
The one I noticed the most was women wearing rubber/pvc knee-high farm chore boots that had patterns painted on them. I have to quick buy out all of the stock of chore boots in the local Farm and Fleet stores before that trend hits here.

That's not what our chore boots have on them

All the chicks are wearing tall-ish boots these days, but I haven't seen too many chore-boot types. They do wear them like chore boots, though; outside their pants.

Oh, I don't know. I think I could get used to the look of boots outside pants. ;)

Yep knee boots are popular with the coeds on campus during rainy days. Been like that for about two years.

This. Knee high rubber boots are very popular at my university. No, I don't get why.

I'm gonna guess that it started with Uggs, but no one can explain that fashion either, so...

Actually, it's a very good explanation for why high boots (not concealed by pants or a long skirt) have become so popular, and why the above picture appeals to you. They're commonly associated with sexual promiscuity.

And no, I'm not casting aspersions on the women who wear them. I know plenty of "nice girls" who wear them.

How do you feel about high heels or short skirts?

When I was in my late teens/early twenties, very short mini skirts were fashionable. Today I generally don't see any women but prostitutes wearing them that short. Then again, I don't get out a lot. ;)

I just thought of something, Fistful. Wouldn't it be easier to get the girl's jeans off if she weren't wearing boots? Seems like the boots would act as something of an impediment. ;)

Yep. We toured some museums and my wife commented that the women who wear those boots must have really gross stinky feet after 4-5 hours of walking in them.

So, we're having a Jimmy Johns this afternoon and a guy and a girl come in.  Now maybe I'm old, but I'm still amused by the garb kids wear.

She had a hoodie with the hood up over her head, camo pajama bottoms with elastic bottoms tight to her ankles and flip flops and red painted toe nails.  He had on a white plain t-shirt, yellow armpits, worn, wrinkled tuxedo pants, no socks and patent leather black shoes and he needed a shave.

Those rubber boots are exceedingly popular with the young women on the central IL campus where I work. They do become more popular on rainy days but you'll see them for 3 seasons until it's sandal weather again. Calling them a gesture of sexual promiscuity is giving the boots too much credit. I try not to judge anyone by their fashion but when you roll your waistband down to show a few inches of butt crack, prominently displaying the word "JUICY" over your fannie, what else can I assume from that message?

Spoon will occassionally wear fairly short skirts, and loves "go-go boots".

By all means, feel free to call her "sexually promiscuous". Let us know when you're gonna do it though, I wanna sell tickets...
