Politics / Re: California Electricity Costs

Your discussion peaked my curiosity so I checked my most recent bill from Ameren Illinois.  My home is a "split system" with gas heat/water heater and electricity for all else.  We also have "electric delivery" and "electric supply" charges with a split come summer for 0-800KWH "non-summer".
Under "delivery", the "distribution charge" is $0.03889/kwh; "deferred income tax adjustment" is -2.73% (a credit) but the "delivery service cost adjustment" is 9.8% (a "fee").
Under "supply", the "purchased elec. non-summer" is $0.06249/kwh with a "purchased elec. adjustment" (credit) of $0.0002652, followed by a "supply cost adjustment" of $0.00085 and a "transmission service chg." of $0.02349.
Then come the "taxes and fees"  - 10 different items.  [barf]
Gas ain't so bad.  Under "delivery" are 5 items - all charges - "Cust. Chg." (a straight dollar chg.); "Dist. Del.chg." $0.43776; "Volume Balancing Adj." (?) $0.1635; "qualifying infrastructure plant surchg." 0.77%; and "invested capital tax adj." 0.69%.
Then there is the actual "gas supply" that charges $0.46569435/therm and finally 4 "taxes & fees".

A nice simple bill,right??

Maybe movies like "The Terminator", "Matrix", and "Minority Report" aren't that unlikely anymore.  ;/  >:D

Hawk - your dilemma got me curious so I checked my Win. 7 font folder.  It says I have 294 font styles but not all are "triples" (reg., bold. italic) and those would be the graphic ones like "Bon Apetit MT".  Many haven't been used in years and some, "Book Antiqua" and "Bookman Old Style" appear to be virtually identical.  Several are sci-fi related (Star Trek {Federation, Klingon, & Romulan}, Babylon 5, Dwarf & Germanic runes, and even 4 "Wingdings") while some are "classic" fonts like "KingsCross" and "King Arthur".  A few are even like handwriting script (Chopin).  I have used them when I used to make cards for relatives.

Hey, are they talking about "Otzi?"

Is this a new discovery?

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=The+ice+man+fossil&t=brave&ia=web

"Ötzi, also called the Iceman, is the natural mummy of a man who lived between 3350 and 3105 BC. Ötzi's remains were discovered on 19 September 1991, in the Ötztal Alps at the border between Austria and Italy. He is Europe's oldest known natural human mummy, offering an unprecedented view of Chalcolithic Europeans. Because of the presence of an arrowhead embedded in his left shoulder and various other wounds, researchers believe Ötzi was killed. The nature of his life and the circumstances of his death are the subject of much investigation and speculation. His remains and personal belongings are on exhibit at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy. Wikipedia"

On the basis of the thin information in the link, dated May 9th 2024, it's hard to tell.

Right now, I'm inclined to suspect the Business Insider (and the author)  of committing pure propaganda.  I hope I'm wrong.

Here in Nye County we have a CoOp and it is 35 dollars service fee and $0.145 per kWh. I run about 225 a month in the summer with the air going.

BLM is in the process of leasing thousands of acres just south of here in Clark County for solar farms of which 70% or so of the power generated is slated for CA and they wonder why people here are pissed they are tearing up the desert for these things.

Where is Vindman when you need him?!? I recently saw an interview with that jackass, who was pretty much calling himself a hero and saying he would continue to call out corruption wherever he found it. I mean, this is what he whistleblew on Trump for, so where is he now?

Don't click these links unless you're ready to go deep.

The first is a link to Air Rifle Headquarters.
ARH is a guy who sells replacement parts, lubricants, and upgrades for springer air rifles. It looks like he learned HTML in 1998, built a website that still uses the same fonts and colors, and updates info as appropriate.

Linked here is an ARH RWS Tune Kit
https://www.airrifleheadquarters.com/catalog/item/251488/2514146.htm

Don't email him and ask how to install it.  He's not going to help cut off a finger or put out your eye!  I bought parts from him (5-7 years ago?) and he's legit.

The second is Gateway To Airguns.  It's a relatively active air rifle forum with 20 years of posts and tons of good information. It is old school, with many tutorials, some rebuilt since photobucket broke the internet.

https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php

You want photo evidence of terminal ballistics?  GTA
Chrono strings for various pellets? GTA

GTA can be hard to navigate (not as hard as ARH) but the data is solid because, while friendly and welcoming, the BS gets called out and deleted.

The cost from my utility (Pedernales Electric Co Op) is $0.103765* per kilowatt hour, which includes delivery charge, base power cost, and TCOS (Transmission Cost of Service) pass-through charge. Then there's a monthly $22.50 "service availability charge" and variable random tax added on. For a while there was a "storm damage" surcharge, but then once a year we get a "capital credit" rebate. Factoring all that in, for the last year I paid a total of about $0.1233 per kilowatt hour on average.

*- Yes, they DO call out the cost to six decimal places.

Update: I fired up my oldest desktop computer. I had LibreOffice 7.6.6.3 installed and NO Noto fonts. The current long-term stable version of Libre Office is 7.6.7.2, so I downloaded that and installed it. After the installation, I found 17 Noto font families installed, with a total of 48 Noto fonts installed.

I have removed them. There was no option in the custom settings for LibreOffice where I could tell it not to install the Noto fonts.
