I'm of the opinion that the sheer presence of violence doesn't make a film not-child-safe.

I wouldn't mind a 11-year-old watching something like Commando or Terminator, but I wouldn't let my child (if I had one) watch Pulp Fiction at that age.

Similarly, I wouldn't mind a 14-year-old watching Saving Grace, though that is rated R, IIRC.

Well, since you're childless, I'm glad you have the enlightenment to pick and choose which forms of violence, language, and nudity are okay for children.

You all did catch where Don't Care apologized for not catching that second pic? He obviously didn't link to it on purpose. Deep breaths, stuff happens.

I would think that this the job of each individual parent. In the end of the day it is the parent who raises the child. In my view the majority of people in the world are enlightened enough to raise their own children - as proven by the fact most people in the world turn out all right and civilization continues to exist.

I also think that my position is legitimate. THe mere presence of a given type of content does not in and of itself make a film or a book inappropriate. There is a difference between films  and books that glamorize violence or which are basically porn, and between films and books that have an actual content to them and are actual works of art and/or valid entertainment. The best thing to do is to read a review or view the material for yourself.

Yeah, we were talking about the first picture. Jamis said that a wet-T-shirt image is not PG-13.  And then... I think the thread got derailed. Which is normal.

I've been playing violent games (Doom and Resident Evil) and watching violent movies (too many to name) since I was ten years old and I turned out just fine!
But no nudity, that's just wrong.

Watching violent movies turned me into an anti gun liberal.
Luckelly, someone got to me before it was too late.  I'm just a pro gun confused liberative now.

So....does that mean we're going to get back to talking about wet T-shirt pictures now?....   =D

Yes, he did.  And he edited the link much, much later after that.
However
A bikini chick, that's NSFW.  A wet tshirt chick showing full nipplage.....thats beyond NSFW and borderline porn.  she's hot and I'd love to make that picture my background.  But with kids and a wife thats not a good idea.  And to get a surprise with my kid looking over my shoulder when she pops up in what I expected to be only mildly NSFW.....if my kid had been standing there I'd have been truely pissed.

This one's dead to me its going nowhere.

Are nipples really that sexy?  Is it obscene for a woman to go out in public without a heavily padded bra?

Jamis has called me on some of my prejudices, so I think turnabout is fair play.  That ain't obscene.  It ain't borderline porn.  as far as I'm concerned, it's G rated.

Oh I love nipples and I love porn.  I think that fact is well established around here.

Sure, but nipples showing through a garment ain't it.

Jamis, I gotta say that (especially in avatar size) the t-shirt pic is no worse than say, the chick in the boat on the river in the bikini with the giant bazongas. In a majority of workplaces, that could be considered NSFW, especially if one of the office feminists walked by while it was up in all it's glory.

For the record, I saw that on Don't Care's link he had Firefox set to super duper extreme safe search and the t-shirt pic still came through.

Jamis and Mike both raise a good point.

This is a very public forum, and we have underage members who have been known to frequent the place.

Let's not make Oleg's job more difficult than it has to be.

Call me a prude, but this discussion is best held elsewhere.
