I watched it last night (DTV) for the first time and was glued to the tv the whole hour.  I knew he was a brutal dictator and all but wow, that documetary put it all in perspective.  From strapping grenades to guys chests, to mass graves, the program showed everything but the act as it happened.  Even discussed the WMD that he used.

If you haven't seen it before and question why we shouldn't of helped the Iraqi people, then I suggest you watch it.

Did it have "edgy" jump cuts and random guitar grinding soundtrack?

I've been unable to watch any show on History or Discovery for some time due to the new ADHD formats.

Nope, just phased out the picture momentarily when the grenades went off, shots were fired into prisoners or guys bouncing off the ground after being chucked off of the roof.

Is that the reason we went into Iraq, to help the people?   I think I remember something a little bit different.

We never should have gone.  Since we did, this is a moot point, and really, this is just my opinion, but we never should have gone.  Yes Saddam was a nasty person, but so are a lot of leaders.  What about genital mutilation in Africa?  Or the genocide in Darfur?  Tibet?  How about Somalia?  The argument that we should have gone into Iraq to help the people there is not valid in my opinion, because we are not the policemen of the world, nor should we be.

This is a community of people who, in general, pride themselves on being able to take care of themselves, and one who knows the value of liberty.  Who are we (as a nation) to invade a sovereign country that has not attacked, nor has any capability to attack us?  To help it's people?  We shall see in the next few years, how much help we have really been.

Don't get me wrong.  I support our troops, and always take the time to thank a soldier when I see them.  My friends who have children in the military, I ask them to pass along my thanks.  I have utmost respect for our soldiers, and it saddens me to see them used in a way that hurts our country.

I think I speak for almost all of us when I say, "Not this again."  Groan.

And that goes for the OP and Mr. Physics.

Sorry?   =|

It's just an opinion, nobody has to agree, and I'm willing to bet most of you don't.  It's okay.   =)

I might be mistaken, but I think what I'm talking about is ethical relativism.

We've been round and round on this issue many times before.  The short version of the response is that there were many reasons we went into Iraq, all/most of which were sound and sensible.  That would be followed by a line-by-line refutation of your false assertions (i.e. Saddam never attacked us).

Been there, done that.  Way too many times.

Forgive us if we don't want to wade into this particular discussion yet again.

And you might be able to read all about it, if the bloody history ever finishes loading=)

When did Saddam attack us? Also, most/all of the reasons for this war that I've heard are kinda fishy (ie: WMD's, 911 involvement, hurting his own people).  A difference of opinion, I guess.

I understand this has been talked about before, but I disagreed with the OP's line that I quoted.  Again, sorry for beating a dead horse.  =|

I didn't like the jab at the anti-war side, either.  As one who has always supported the Iraq decision, such reasoning embarrasses me.  But do we have to dredge up the whole issue one more time?

+1! Damn MTV for spoiling film and TV in that way. A whole generation raised to think that's the coolest way ever to shoot a scene or show.

In somewhat the same vein: I'd like to watch the one where the guy explores underneath places but he gets on my nerves because he will not stand still. Gosh, ain't he serious and intent and all that, striding manfully toward...something? Sheesh.

Ok maybe the last line shouldn't of been posted. I don't want to beat a dead horse either. I just thought it was a very informative documentary. Suggestion was to see it if you haven't already.

They were all kind of fishy.  Saddam was a bad man, but as has been said so are a lot of other leaders.

Enough, okay?

Bunch of people I know who are there fighting don't appreciate the armchair quarterbacking over the war.
