My dad used to have a couple of Black Watch albums that I enjoyed listening to.

You know, I still can't put my finger on it, but for some reason bagpipes stir a powerful emotional response from me.  To the best of my knowledge I have no Scot blood, but for some reason, I feel a connection with pipes and drums that I just can't explain.  My wife knows this, and went to the point that at our wedding, she surprised me by arranging to have my brothers (my groomsmen) and I piped in.  It was awesome.  But it posed a funny moment before the ceremony started....  The guy DJ'ing and doing sound during the ceremony is a good friend of mine...  I was standing in the room we were having the ceremony in and talking to him when all of the sudden I hear a bagpipe.  And I'm thinking my bride threw a little bit of bagpipe music into our "everyone filing into the room" pre-ceremony music just to humor me.  But it sounded really....   clear.  And then I realized it wasn't coming from the direction of the speakers, but more off to the side.  So I look to the side door, and sure enough, there's a piper, in full garb.  I look at my buddy and go, "Dave, is that a piper?"  He grins and nods his head...  "Dave, *why* is there a piper here?"  He grins even wider and doesn't say a word...  

I love my wife!  :D

So true....

Dad had a record of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards that had Amazing Grace on it.  I listened to that as a kid growing up so much that I pretty much wore the record out, and can still remember just about every hiss and pop on the vinyl.  To me it is the definitive version of Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.
