Gun class allows for concealed carry in 33 states...
« on: August 30, 2012, 12:26:40 PM »
.. and you can get a deal for it on Groupon. I didn't know that reciprocity was so far spread. It's nice to know that.  =)

If I understood it correctly, they provide classes for both the Utah and Washington permits, simultaneously?

Anyone know anything about that training center?

It looks like they are based in WA (Seattle) so that is how you get the WA part out of it. You have to physically be in WA to apply for a permit, they don't have a non-resident option, just a permit. It is good no matter where you live. When I lived in MT I had a WA permit, no training, just show up, do the application, get fingerprinted and pay your money. It came in the mail a month or so later.

It looks like they use two ranges on the west side of the state to do their training.

Both ranges they do training for are reputable ranges, so by extension, I would guess these guys are also, or else they wouldn't be the "exclusive provider" to the ranges.

As an aside, the range here in Spokane will run a groupon special every 3 months or so for range time, gun rental, etc. It never has made the news here.  =|  =D

eta: The 33 state thing is just from having the Utah non-resident concealed license, which is honored in WA also.

Cool that they are doing it on Groupon - I like seeing the "mainstreaming" of concealed carry.

With the right permits, reciprocity is indeed pretty widespread. Us Californians are experts on the subject. :)

I didn't see how much this deal is going for, but I did my Utah and Florida class for $75. I then used Utah to get Oregon, and Florida to get Arizona, for 37 states total. Covers me for pretty much any state I would want to travel in except Colorado and South Carolina, who are sticks in the mud regarding reciprocity with non-resident permits (and CA of course).

Where did you do your class in CA...if I may ask?  I've been thinking of doing the same.

Longeyes, I did it with Darren at Five Arrows Tactical in San Dimas. Don't know if he's still charging the same, but according to his last monthly newsletter, his current class is combined UT, FL, OR, AZ, and VA. He was doing VA as well back when I took the class, but I never applied since the other permits cover it.

If I were to do the class today, I would likely skip the Utah permit, because AZ plus FL give you the same states, but also then include WA (via the FL permit) and NV (via the AZ permit). OR is a permit unto itself.

I did a Living Social (like Groupon) adventure back in February where they took us to a range in Michigan to shoot, including 5 rounds through an "AK-47"  [cough] WASR [cough] and then over to a Michigan winery for a wine tasting.  They were taking 60-90 people per day from Chicago every weekend (both Sat and Sun) for 4 months to this.

We're winning.   [ar15]

Michigan wine isn't.  [barf]

This. One of the local radio stations airs ads for gun stores/ranges, and concealed carry training on a frequent basis. It's an FM talk radio station, so I guess they know their market. I still haven't gotten used to it, though. I just don't think I ever heard such things advertised until a few years ago.

At least they're doing the two things in the right order.
