No stitches, as its a puncture wound.  Numbed it, debrided it and I've got a big bruise there.  Primary would is about 1/2" long and 1/8" deep.  Didn't hurt as bad as my clavicle break a few years ago, though.
Make sure that you get some good pictures of the wound while it still looks bad. And document, document, document everything: all phone calls, everything animal control told you, everything from the hospital, insurance, lost time at work, etc.  You're going to need all this when you sue the dog's owner.

I have documented and taken pictures, but I have no intention of suing.  The dog was put down, my medical insurance covered the bite, if they want thier money back its between them and the owners, I'm out of the loop.   Do I need money for my 'pain and suffering', or my now scarred-butt?  Nope.  If I had missed time from work, or had any real disfigurement (like a bite on the hand or face), then we'd be talking lawsuit.
I'm tired of how litigious our society has become.

I can't say as I agree with you on this but it's obviously your decision. Such a lawsuit is not just to compensate you for any loss, pain or suffering. It is also a means to deter others from failing to exercise care in controlling their dogs.  As you mentioned, this dog had attacked once before. If the first person to be attacked had brought suit against the owner, do you think you would have been bitten or would the animal have been better restrained if not already put down?

I am indeed curious...

Just what did the owner of the dog say to you or the police when they were confronted with the situation?

My wife got chomped on by a pit bull, she got $15K from the owner's insurance, and is still leery of pit bulls to this day...
They were very apologetic.  They also didn't hesitate in turning the dog over to animal control.  Incidentially, the dog is to be euthanized, I found that out about lunchtime today.

I'm not much of a sue-er, but if the homeowner's offers  me money I wont turn it down.  I did demand my out of pocket expenses in a certified letter, which was only $65.
They should wait to see if it is rabid. Hopefully it is not although I understand rabies vaccine is easier to handle theses days.

The dog was current on its shots, and it was observed for 24 hours IIRC.

Unfortunately, its usually insurance that picks up the tab.  This just pushes premiums up for the rest of us.  Now, if it had gotten something more vital like a hand or caused visible disfigurement, I'd probably have a piece of thier arse, so to speak.
