Buy your black helicopter maker while you can
« on: July 10, 2015, 03:50:55 PM »
The business press is giving the edge to Lockheed buying Sikorsky.  Does the black dark green paint come with?

To put it mildly, Sikorsky HQ is filled with dead wood. Super expensive dead wood, because it's based in CT. Their operations elsewhere tend to be hugely profitable, which HQ internally snakes to make their numbers look good. Being divested from UTC is the best thing that could happen to it on the long term. The CT management is mostly concerned with empire building and the corporate religion (6S, 5S plus safety). The CT labor is union, and aggressive unionists at that, Teamsters When I was working at Sikorsky, I believe at least a couple of unionists or union sympathizers actively sabotaged aircraft being built by non-union people with FOD. It could have gotten people killed if the Quality folks weren't on their game.

Sikorsky needs to shed its lifers, move operations entirely out of CT (and away from union controlled states), and drop the price of their aircraft to stay competitive. While admittedly, they make the best helicopters on the planet, Sikorsky is stupid because their margins are too high. High margins allow you to be stupid.

I could write a book on how screwed up they are.

I am sure there is a demand for such a tome, somewhere.

Probably in the Lockheed offices if nowhere else.

Sold to Lockheed for over $ 8 billion.

BWAHAHAHAHAHHAA

Yeah, saw that coming. "The new Lockmart-Sikorsky aircraft - Five times the promised price for half the promised performance"

Remember everything I said Sikorsky needed to do to become profitable? Yeah, none of that is gonna happen. US taxpayers will be expected to make up the difference with much higher UH-60, CH-53, etc pricing, parts and servicing. Lockmart isn't stupid, they have decentralized production facility in all the major Congresscritter backyards and bribe quite liberally on top of their pricy job programs.
