...I saw a bumper sticker today that said "religious organizations should keep out of politics or be taxed."...
Perhaps you should have informed the owner of that bumper sticker that that's precisely how things work right now.  Religious organizations do have to stay out of politics, or else they lose their tax exempt status. There was a big fuss in the last presidential election when Catholic priests gave sermons on the evils of abortion, and went so far as to say that voting for politicians who support abortion was a sin.  Democrats whined (can you imagine that?) about it being unfair.

In this day and time, the courts may favor the worker.  Not sure if that was true always.

Interesting thing.  I saw a History Channel show on Ford and the development of the auto industry.  One thing they talked about was how it was hard work, repetitive, and not ergonomic.  In the early years, they had a hell of a time keeping workers.  People would start and not stay long at all.  Ford then had to start paying the workers more to retain them because it was costing them too much and threatening production.  Auto workers were then one of the higher paying jobs around after that.  They could afford to buy the cars they were making.

Now days, the benefits are all wrapped up in union agreements.  I couldn't tell you if the work is just as hard today or not.

I don't doubt that, but churches should be taxed anyway. Plenty of other organizations stay out of politics, and are taxed.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

You are correct and I had forgotten that.  Thanks.

Ever so slight correction.  MOST religious organizations have to stay out of politics.  Neither party wants to sponsor "really get serious" legislation so I guess we'll watch another scharade.
