Dems Just Now Learn They Misinterpreted 2016
« on: April 03, 2018, 10:33:26 PM »
Ha ha. Apparently the dems are just now figuring out they misinterpreted their own base in 2016.

So I guess a large chunk of the "deplorable dumb white voters" were actually democrat voters. And the largest percentage of the dem base. Oops.

I think the winning strategy for the Democratic Party is to drive hard left and push for open borders and repeal of the 2nd Amendment.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

I'm divided.  Twenty years ago I'd say yea the dems should absolutly do that.

Today the stupid has achieved such ascendancy in society doing that might wind up with a true communist government that isn't even scared to label itself COMMUNIST.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait...

You mean the Reagan coalition is still a viable election strategy? Well, knock me over with a feather.

And, somehow, the Republicans haven't been able to use it in the intervening 30 years? Again, I'm so shocked.

Hillary Clinton apparently just doubled down on this stuff in her latest faux pas on her "I should have won" tour. Even with the numbers staring them in the face, they still try to market themselves to pajama boy.

Allow me to explain the mindset:

"Those awful deplorable white people are going to die off soon, anyway, so we just misjudged the timing of when we could spurn them. By next time, enough will be dead so we can win with our new, preferred coalition."

They are incapable of doing anything else.  They might change what appearances they put up, but that is what they will do.  They forgot past lessons "Never go full leftist", or at least don't appear to do so.

That is what Obama did in 2008.  He was running to the middle while McCain was going left of Obama thinking he had to appease some mythical centrist voter.

If only the (unprintable) Republican party in congress would pay attention and start doing things the voters actually like, rather than crapping all over them...

it's easier to be the loser. You can raise funds on promises while never actually having to accomplish anything.

Not to mention submit new bills publicly while insuring they get buried in committee, and opposing/voting against other bills while quietly helping them get out of committee so they pass.

Their analysis doesn't matter a whit. All signs point to the Dems taking both houses of congress in the mid-terms.  Serves The Stupid Party right for crapping on their base.
(I'd sure love to have crow for breakfast the morning after the election, but I don't believe that will happen.)
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Why does everyone say that?   In generic polls the democrats are actually LOSING GROUND against repubs.  If this trend continues repubs may do okay.
The house may lose some seats....the Senate may be okay.
I get it that traditionally the opposing party to whoever holds the presidency usually do well at this point,  but I think excessive pessimism isn't necessary.

Are these the same pollsters that told us hillary was gonna win in an historic landslide?

Trump's approval ratings are showing at 51% (again with the polls  ) but I'll wait a bit before I right off the stupid party. While their signature strategic move is to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, it ain't over till it's over.

Yup. Nancy Pelosi just announced that if they get the majority they will immediately rescind the Trump tax cuts. Dems can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory just as easily as the Rs can.

That's the wildcard, though; the President's own party is more of a PITA to him than the other party, (granted, partly because so many Dems have gone full retard and lost credibility with even more people) while at the same time, he's turned a few fence sitters to both sides.

No one knows what the hell is going to happen next Fall.  I think the current circumstances are a bit unprecedented.  If the Dems keep going Full Gun Control and Full Raise Taxes, they just might tick off their own blue collar base.  The work class whites and working class minorities (~60% total) are probably not as keen on gun control as the college boys.  Most certainly a bunch of Repub voters are not keen on it.  Also, the Repubs in Congress could do something positive in the meantime or something else might come up between now and then that overshadows all of this.

And then there are also all the state by state factors I have no idea about.  I am waiting to see what happens in Florida.  Their primary isn't until August.  I am curious if the R's who voted for the gun control bill pay any sort of price.  Probably not, but we will see.
