I would have posted this a few weeks ago, but the investigation was still ongoing. However, it's done now and this is too good not to mention.
One of our agents was burglerized last fall. He lost jewelry, a gun, cash, and some electronics that included a video camera. Fast forward a couple weeks and they got the guy on a unrelated charge, finding some of our agent's stuff in the house when they searched it. Everything they found was returned, including aforementioned video camera.
Fast forward a couple months. The tape in the camera was of the agent's daughter in a cheerleader routine. Over the holidays they set down to watch it again and - surprise! - about 2/3 the way through the image changed from cheerleader routine to pictures of someone's house. Someone else's house. The dumb crook's, to be exact. I saw the tape and not only did he get perfect facial shots of everyone in the house, he got a perfect shot of himself from both profile and front. In addition the audio is crystal clear. You can hear every stupid thing they are saying, including the names of just about everyone in the room.
Needless to say, the sheriff's dept was delighted to have a copy.
