There was an interview with some of the students who got out of those dorms in MO. I have no idea how nobody was killed...the buildings literally came apart around them. They told of windows exploding inward, ceilings coming down and debris falling on them. The buildings look like a car bomb blew up in front of them.
They got lucky.
Also, the news last night really showed the geographic bias. The South doesn't matter, apparently.
For hours, I was seeing blog posts of "OMG IT HIT THE MALL PEOPLE ARE TRAPPED" and "I can see a fireball over the horizon!"...and all the major news networks were just "election" and even "natalie holloway" (!)...no mention at all of that. No scroller, no nothing. A full three hours after one hit Memphis, CNN was running Nancy Grace with no cut-in, even. If someone was tuned into Fox or CNN or any of those and couldn't hear a warning siren, they'd have gotten no warning at all.
If it were Hollywood, it would have been breaking in as Breaking News, but... the South got no coverage until the first reports of confirmed fatalities, and until the candidates themselves mentioned the ongoing disaster in speeches.
Figures.
