daylight enslavement time
« on: March 06, 2008, 02:55:46 PM »
I have a hard enough time getting up on schedule, I am a night cab driver also so it means more work.
How do we go about getting rid of this obsolete and obnoxious practice?
Thank you for letting me rant.

I love daylight savings time.  Long days and short nights.  Great in the summer.

The relative amounts of daylight and night always shift in favor of daylight during summer, in you live in the northern hemisphere. Doesn't take Congress diddling with the clocks to make it happen. I have never understood how "daylight savings time" saves any daylight, or accomplishes any constructive purpose. I think it should be abolished. Those who want to get up an hour earlier can just ... get up an hour earlier.

Love it, it's awesome.  Measures of time are all social agreement anyway; I have no problem with gov't adjusting it in this way.

I like it because I get off of work at 5:00pm and have till 8:30pm to shoot.

A recent study (no link, find it yourself if you care) found that daylight savings time actually uses more energy these days.

I don't like daylight savings time because it saves energy.  I like it because it gives me an extra hour of sunlight after work.

I despise it. It means I have to wake up an hour earlier. I am not a morning person.

I think it's stupid. The US is the only country that tries to manipulate time. It does nothing for us up here in Alaska except create a semi-annual aggravation.

No it isn't.

Arizona doesn't have daylight savings. We are far too civilized for that.

Or backwards... depends on your outlook.

I have a love/hate relationship with DST.
Being a grave-shifter, that one little hour makes a difference. When it rolls back, that extra hour means either more sleep or more time to twiddle my thumbs before heading to work. When it goes forward, it's less sleep before work, but a jump on early morning shopping after.

Here's to a healthier, more productive nation with DST. angel

As I was walking down the street one day
A man came up to me and asked me what the time was that was on my watch, yeah
And I said

Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I cant imagine why
Weve all got time enough to cry

And I was walking down the street one day
A pretty lady looked at me and said her diamond watch had stopped cold dead
And I said

Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I cant imagine why
Weve all got time enough to cry

And I was walking down the street one day
Being pushed and shoved by people trying to beat the clock, oh, no I just dont know
I dont know
And I said, yes I said

Background:
People runnin everywhere
Dont know where to go
Dont know where I am
Cant see past the next step
Dont have time to think past the last mile
Have no time to look around
Just run around, run around and think why

Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I cant imagine why
Weve all got time enough to die
Avoid cliches like the plague!

I like the extra hour of daylight after work.

I don't care if it's still dark when I get to the office.

I love it because it's more time at night to shoot.

I hate it because I have a three year old, and, well, they don't grasp the concept.

Half the year she gets up at 5:00AM, the other half of the year 6:00AM.

The six I can handle.

The five?

Not so much.
One day at a time.

QFT.  I like having the extra time for biking/shooting/fishing/etc.

why not just set time aside for yourself rather than force an entire country to dance to the tune of an antiquated left-over from the age of the family farm?
I do not get enough sleep, now I will get even less, I drive 12 hour shifts most nights, an hour less is a big deal.

I still don't get it. There is no extra hour*. Days are still 24 hours long.
You mean that there's still enough light to shoot by?

*There is no spoon, either.
