I dunno, but part of me says "vote from the rooftops" time is coming.
We're right behind you, guy!
I always laugh whenever I read one of these. People have no historic sense.
In the 1950s the government could tap your phone for no reason whatsoever. People were effectively banned from their jobs just for belonging to certain organizations (ever see Woody Allen's The Front?). Being a homosexual pretty much guaranteed getting fired if you were ever found out. Being Jewish excluded you from staying in certain hotels or living in certain neighborhoods. Being Black--well we all know this one.
If you wanted a copy of Burrough's Naked Lunch you had to smuggle one in from the U.K because it was banned in this country. Ditto for some of D.H Lawrence's books.
Abortions were illegal in most cases.
Divorces were difficult to get unless you went to Reno or some other such place.
So go ahead and tell us how bad we have it and how intrusive government is in our lives.
