A Rich Man's Car
« on: August 20, 2008, 06:38:41 AM »
I don't know much about cars, and need something a typical uber-rich money waster would have to flaunt his money.  I don't mean the MOST expensive, just something realistic for your typical Hollywood caliber superstar.

I was originally going to use a Lamborghini, but that just seems too much of a stereotypical "rich guy car" to me.

(It's for a story I'm working on.)

Thanks for your assistance, knowledgeable people.

I'd say Ferrari, but again, almost too stereotypical...

Class, how about Aston Martin, Bentley?
AKA Navy Joe

I'm so contrarian that I didn't respond to the thread.

Go with a Jag or Aston-Martin.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Depending on if your character "has class" or not, the MB works....Audi also has the A8L, which is a mobile land yacht, very quick, very pricy....If you want elite, there is the RS6....

I'm thinking if you want a Playboy image, go with a Porsche 911 GT2?....if he is REALLY loaded and wants to stick out....try the Porche Carerra...

Aston Martin for Bond-esque cool. Bentley Continental for something a bit flashier, perhaps crasser even.

Pagani Zonda for totally over the top.

If I suddenly became a rich man, I'd probably drive a Land Rover Defender

If I suddenly became uberwealthy, I'd probably still drive a Subaru Outback.

But I'd have a 64 Corvette Stingray in the garage. Smiley

Mercedes CLS AMG. 480bhp, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. It's very silly, ostentatious without being Zonda money.

I'd have a uber large garage full of all sorts of internal combustion toys.

I'll take a 69 Dayota Charger (Hemi powered 620hp at 6000RPM and 620lb.-ft. at 4700 RPM) to your Stingray. At least I'll be able to see over my hood at 120mph.

Might be hard to find one since only 70 were built with a Hemi

I don't know if you are thinking SUV, luxury, or exotic sports car.  Also price range would be somewhat helpful, for under 1 million this list would work.

One car not on the list is the Nissan skyline GTR, set to debut next year (i think).  If the story takes place in the recent past, you could go with an Acura NSX.  Both of these cars are in the ~100,000 range.

For ~1 million+ you could go with the mecedes 500 clk-gtr,  Mclaren F1, Bugatti Veyron.  Depends on year story takes place, of course.

Of course, your rich character could be trying to hide his wealth and drive a 1970 Ford pickup  laugh

Howabout a Rauche Mustang?

It's raw tribal power, executed by master craftsmen.

If you want more sedate-looking but still quite road-capable, perhaps a BMW 7-series?

Luxury or exotic sports car...the story is present day, though really it could take place any time in the past 40 years/immediate future.

Thanks for all the responses.  This is great stuff.  Not only will this help me with my current story, but I think I'll save the whole thread for future reference.
