I thought it looks kind of like a shepherd/labrador mutt.

Definitely half shepherd.  He has white legs, and as far as I know, labs don't

Yeah, I see the shepherd, and the ears just scream Lab.  Sounds like a good dog to me.  Labs usually have a very happy disposition, and Shepherds are quite intelligent.

I love it.  It is the best of both breeds.  Have you named the dog yet?

Don't know but it'll probably grow up to look exactly like Duke here.  He has traits from all sorts of dogs.  We gave up on trying to figure his lineage out.  Mutts are the best.

The muzzle says Shepherd.  Yellow Lab for the rest.  I'd say with good training you'll have a good house dog

Yep, looks like a lab/shepherd mix to me. I have one, too. Great dog...please tell me you've had her checked for hip problems and a heart murmur.  Mine has a heart murmur that I swear I can hear outside of him. He's half the dog he was now. Seems to be a thing with Labs.

My daughter named her 'Sadie'. A good enough name for a farm dog I think. She has a very pleasant, calm disposition. She is replacing a shepherd/rottweiler mongrel that was (although not terribly bright) an awfully nice family/farm dog. He was sweet, barked like a stone cold killer at strangers, and then was completely harmless to them. I do hope this girl lives up to her looks and takes after a black mouthed cur that we had for a few months that was an aggressive guardian of my wife/daughter. That dog would circle between my wife/daughter and any adult male stranger keeping himself between them and her. This critter had a funny upper lip that snagged on one of his teeth and looked like a permanent snarl. Scared the bejeebers out of strangers despite it having nothing at all to do with threat behavior.

I haven't done anything with her yet, just hoping for none of the genetic problems like you mention. I know that both labs and shepherds commonly have hip displaysia problems, I'm just hoping that my theory that mongrelization leads to healthier dogs proves true in this instance.
