Mayday! Need to get a current Wichita Falls, TX phone book!
« on: October 20, 2008, 10:34:43 AM »
Here's the poop - the family has decided to meet in the Falls for Thanksgiving, and I (being closest), have been tasked with finding hotel rooms and a place to go out to eat the Thanksgiving Feast, (traditional, i ea per person).  Trouble is, I'm stuck at work until 5:00 every day (Fort SIll, OK), so by the time I can get down there, any place I could get a phone book ( that know off, anyway...) will be closed.  Could someone down there score me one, and let be swing by and pick it up after work?

Bring some bolt cutters and raid a phone booth!   =D

Seriously though, all that information is online.

Not to thread jack, but I do not understand intentionally eating in a restaurant for Thanksgiving.

Don't have to cook. It can be nice.

Because getting family together in a geographically amenable location for dispersed families is more important than the dinner itself.

None of us lived in Thomasville, GA, but it was do-able by all, given thier locations.

Yep, Wichita was in Kansas, but then there was this whole tornado, Dorothy, a witch and wizard thing, it all went horribly wrong and they ended up in Texas.  ;/

One of our favorite family stories is of my sister.I will preface the story by saying that no one from north Texas says "Wichita Falls".  It's just "Wichita".

She was going to school in Louisville, KY.  She and a couple of her friends were on their very first car trip back to Texas.   My sister who, on her best day, is both directionally challenged and blisfully naive, was navigating.  At night.  In a car full of teenage girls.  All of whom were as cartographically challenged as she.

Cut to about two in the morning....

My parents get a phone call.  Collect.  My sister says, "Daddy, we're in Wichita but it doesn't look right and the road signs all say Kansas."

Eating in a restuarant can be nice for Thanksgiving.  My wife and I do it often if there are no relatives or family visiting or we stay home.  We used to do Christmas the same way.  At onetime we did Christmas in Gatlinburg TN.  We have fond memories of those day trips for the holidays.  Ate at the nice restaurant, reservations... multi-course meal, those were great meals and it was always special.  Now we do Crackerbarrel for turkey day most often.

The information you need is online.  I'd print out a list and make some calls.  Check prices online first then make some calls.  Depending on your budget, you can do pretty well.  You can often get prices less than those posted online.  You can do the same thing with restaurants.  The nicer ones will take reservations; some insist on reservations for the holidays.  So if you plan to dine at a restaurant, do your homework or you might be left eating at Shoney's.  Not the endo of the world however.

Thanks - call me old-fashioned, but I still like to use a paper phone book - its just easier for me to start at the top of the category and work my way down that way.  If need be, I'll Google it out.
