Please allow myself to introduce... myself
« on: October 08, 2005, 09:18:14 PM »
Hello ladies and gentlemen, my name is Jake.  I live in Milwaukee, WI, I'm 21 years old, married, and a U.S. Marine.  I'm also a Veteran of OIF II.  If I can ever get myself to enroll back in school, I'll probably be going for a radiology tech degree.  For now I work at a local hospital in security (no firearm carry Sad), it's a decent job, it pays the bills.  I just bought my first firearm several days ago for home defense, it's a black SA XD-9 Service, and I like it quite a bit.  I got it from the Shooters Shop in West Allis, WI.  If you live in SE Wisconsin, it is a great place and they treat every customer very well.  So far that's my only firearm, but I look at it as the start of my collection.  I'm new to this forum (as well as THR, which I really enjoy), so I figured I would just take a second and introduce myself.

Welcome Jake. What is OIF? It sounds like Marinespeak for Iraq, but I can't figure out the acronym.

...and thank you for your service. There's a few Vets around here so make yourself at home! Barbara is a brand new Navy mom and as you can see she's already got the Navyspeak down!

Oh, and don't be a big dumbass like a lot of guys and let those education benefits go to waste. Out of the 10 or so that went into the service in my HS class I was the ONLY ONE to use up his GI bill. It'll be tough cause you'll feel like there's nothing but kids around and you'll feel so much "older".

Thanks all for the warm welcome.  In response to griz, OIF II is the acronym for Operation Iraqi Freedom II.  And congratulations Barbara on your new baby!

Welcome, Jake! Sounds like you'll fit in quite nicely here.
A good resource for your new toy is www.hs2000talk.com .  (HS2000 is the predecessor to the XD). I have an XD9 Subcompact and absolutely love it!

+1 on the "use the GI Bill" thing. You paid for it, get the most out of it.

OOPS!

I think I meant to say Barbara has a ~ 19 y.o. son who is now spending his VERY FIRST days at a certain Navy Recruit Training Center that is apparently located in or near Waukegan, Il.

She didn't just have a baby, she has a baby boot... :embarrassed smily:

Hey, isn't Tater Salad the nickname for comedian Ron White?

Congrats on the Marine stint.  I'm finishing up my 20 years in the Air Force, starting to cop an attitude, even.  Wink

Welcome around the campfire, Jake.  I think you'll enjoy APS' wide ranging conversation.  Goes from sillyness to pretty serious discussion.  I spit up my morning coffee when I saw you congratulate Barbara on her "new baby"  Heh. Heh.  I can't wait to see her reply.

Thank you for your service to our country.  I salute you, lad.

I gotta ask, seems everyone is skirting the most obvious question...

I mean the Welcome part has been done. The appreciation of your service has been  done. The firearm bit has been covered...

...the things I do around here...

Mustard , German, or American?

Right partial to Mustard 'tater salad myself. Wink

It took me a few minutes to realize why he was congratulating Barbara for her new baby. Then it all suddenly became very clear. shocked

I like my 'tater salad with a little vinagar bite along with hot mustard.  When fresh tomatoes are in (August-now) I like to dice 'em up and thow in a handful to each helping.  Maybe a really thick cut ham sandwich too, while were at it.  That's it, that's all I need.  ...maybe a real cold Labatt's Blue beer too.  And some homemade dill pickles, maybe.

lisa, how did you happen on this old thread?

I'm sure tater salad is an alright guy, but his namesake is disgusting.  I hate tater salad of all kinds.  I hate sweet potatoes.  And, crime most unspeakable, I don't like baked potatos either.

Welcome Jake! I live just outside of Milwaukee myself. In fact, there are a bunch of us here from around Milwaukee. Monkeyleg (he's the man when it comes to firearms and politics in WI, especially CCW), AJ Dual, Hunter Rose (well, okay, he's a little ways north) Gewehr98 (well, he's actually nearer Madison than Milwaukee).

You'll like it hear and at THR. Wink

Oh, and fistful's actually a really nice guy. Just sometimes though he gets as cranky as Mike Irwin. I haven't figured out why yet. Cheesy
