Board question (and embaressed to ask it)
« on: November 05, 2008, 07:50:03 PM »
Now that I feel sufficiently stupid......

What do the stars under the author's/member's name indicate?

I tried looking through the site, without an answer.

Not a whole hell of a lot, really.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

My cat's breath smells like cat food.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

The stars show just how much Obama loves each of us...
Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

They're a measure of life quality. The more stars a person has, the more he/she needs to get a life.

You SHOULD be embarrassed to ask it.  To even ask the question shames you, me, and the entire Armed Polite Society.  People like you should be run out of the country, and your families should be enslaved.

When you come to this board, you are immediately assigned a number of stars, which was determined LONG before you ever heard of APS.

Star predestination.

It's very Calvinist, but it works well.

I see that the OP failed to notice that not only are there different numbers, but also different colors.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Yep.  The reddish-yellow ones with horizontal slashes are reserved for the 'tards.  The five star post-'tards are to be avoided at all costs.

So, how does one accumulate / lose stars?

Seriously, how does it work?

They are determined by post count for ordinary members, friends and mods are on a different system. Preacherman listed the breakdown of posts per title such as new member, member, senior member, etc a while ago. You can try and search for it if you like. I think you get a star for every change in title, but I am not sure.

It is entirely arbitrary and doesn't mean a thing.  You can't accumulate them or lose them.

I had no doubt about that.

No, the stars are not completely arbitrary.

Admins have 5 gold stars.

Moderators have 4(?) blue stars.

For those who have a status of "member," the number of stars you have depends on how many posts you have made.

For those with a status of "friend" or "friends," I believe they have two stars, which does not change.

I could fairly easily change this, as it would just require a few minutes tinkering with the forum settings, but I figure why bother.
