FRAMINGHAM —

Police have a simple message to whomever is leaving meat on the Town Centre common: "Stop it".

Yesterday, for the sixth week in a row, a pile of meat was found on the common - and no one knows why it's there or who is putting it there, police spokesman Lt. Paul Shastany said.

"To the person who is doing this stop it," he said. "We're tied up, to a great extent, doing investigation into robberies and other serious crimes, and this is a drain on our resources. We would rather have this closed out and not having it done."

The meat, apparently a hunk of beef, a liver, several smaller bones and what appears to be chicken fat, were found by a resident around 9:30 a.m. on the common under a tree, Shastany said.

The meat was not there as of Monday night, said Chris Walsh, a resident of nearby Vernon Street. Residents checked the area around 11:30 p.m. and it wasn't there, he said.

The meat found yesterday, unlike the other incidents, appeared to be rotting instead of freshly purchased, said Walsh, a Precinct 7 Town Meeting member.

Neighbors say they don't understand why this keeps happening.

"There are plenty of weird, little funny theories, but nothing that makes sense because it doesn't make sense," Walsh said. "I don't think we've seen a whole cow, but we're getting there."

Walsh said some neighbors have been worried the meat may be poisoned to target animals, and people are being extra careful when taking their dogs for walks through the common. It is also possible that the person who is leaving the meat does not realize how many people care about it, he said.

"I don't think they realize it's causing a stir," Walsh said. "We've established that sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning it happens. Maybe it's time for a 'steak-out.' "

Town Manager Julian Suso said the meat has been sent to a state lab to be tested, but results will not be available until at least the third week of December.

"As a reminder, there is no indication that this is posing any threat to public health or safety," Suso said in a statement. "Both the police department and the Board of Public Health are continuing to work together in investigating this matter."

The police ask anyone who sees someone leaving the meat to call them at 508-872-1212.

"We believe this is a concern to the community and, needless to say, the Police Department is investigating," Shastany said.

So, are the police beefing up patrols in the area?

They need to flesh out a plan to catch this guy.
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Dumbest quote from the whole story.  He doesn't think they realize it's causing a stir.  Uh-huh.

Have they heard of surveillance cameras?

I was under the impression that EVERYWHERE over there was already covered in CCTV.

Have they grilled all the suspects yet? I hope the police have their most seasoned detective on the case.

My guess is this is the motive:

I went to college there (the town, not the Common) in the early 70's.  www.Framingham.edu  It was the first Normal School in America.  And, as we used to say, it was also the first school in America to go abnormal.  =D

Finding strange stuff on the Common back then was not all that strange.  Wonder why all the hubbub now.

Oh - the puns are only so-so.  Certainly not up to the usual APS levels.

Like or not, I must say "well done" to the perpetrator.  He's been on the lamb for quite some time.

Fortunately, this type of crime is rare.

Nah, they misquoted him.  What he meant to say was, "I don't think they realize it's causing a stir fry".
