Geez, what an asshat...

BENSALEM, Pa. -- A note handed to a bank teller demanding $20, $50 and $100 bills "the quicker the better" was written on a pay stub that led police to a robbery suspect even though the name and address were crossed out with a marker.

"It wasn't a huge forensic undertaking," Steven Moran, Bensalem director of public safety, said Wednesday. "We just put it under a light."

The FBI charged Michael Drennon, 26, of Philadelphia, with robbing the Wachovia Bank in Bensalem on Friday. Drennon, who had been living in a halfway house while on probation, was being held at the federal detention center in Philadelphia pending a hearing scheduled for Friday. It couldn't immediately be determined if he had an attorney.

The man who slipped the teller the note Friday left the bank with about $2,500, authorities said. Police said Drennon had about $1,800 on him when he was arrested.

ROFL,

Thanks Mike, appreciate the chuckle.

Pay stub...well at least he was not stoopid like the guy that used the back of his pre- printed deposit slips as we had a guy do here awhile back. *smirk*

Well, it was halfway back to prison, anyway.

I had a kid who knocked over a Village Pantry (kwik-e-mart type places here) in a Darth Vader mask.  Problem was that he did not wear a shirt (as we know from watching "Cops" you cannot commit a felony in a shirt) and had his name tattooed on his arm.  More hilarity, he did not put the mask on but held it in front of his face and looked over the top of it as the cashier was getting the money out of the till.  And, yes, he purchased the mask at Wal-Mart which has an excellent camera system in their stores.

It's not like they prosecute the smart ones.

Some guy over here handed over a note demanding money that was written on the back of a utility bill with his name and address on it.

I suppose it could have been viewed as an impulsive crime, I've considered such things after reading my bills too.

A couple of days ago a cooch dancer in a topless club made a date with one of the customers that was bragging about winning 10 grand in a casino.  She picked up her boyfriend before meeting the "date".  When they met at the motel the boyfriend hit the "date" over the noggin with a tire iron and they took his money.
Of course, all the police had to do was take the "date" back to the club, as them the name of the dancer and drive to her house and wait for them to come home.
Duhh.

Years ago a dim bulb robbed Bank A by writing a note on a deposit slip.  He stood in line waiting to get to the teller.  Getting ansy, he left taking the note to Bank B.  In Bank B he got better service and presented the note (on the deposit slip from Bank A) to the teller.  The teller tells DB that she can not take the note from Bank A.  DB goes back to Bank A and stands in line again.  Shortly thereafter the police apprehended him.

Ya know, you gotta wonder why the smart criminals don't capitalize on this kinda stupidity.

How hard would it be to find a pay stub with some other guy's name on it?  You could even use a little creative costuming and makeup to make yourself look like the other poor sap.  Smile at the security camera.  Make sure you act like a moron who's too stupid to understand he's setting himself up.

The police would be too busy laughing at the "stupidity" of the crime to realize they've arrested the wrong guy.

Maybe that's what did happen.

Who would be a better fall guy than a dude in a halfway house?

There have been cases of practical jokers writing robbery notes on the back of deposit slips and stuffing them back in the stack on the counter. Eventually some poor sap hands it to the teller, causing a panic. Of course, the sap eventually gets out of it, but it isn't much fun.

There's was the time here when a man robbed a bank and then stood in front of the bank to catch a bus.  When the cops interviewed  the teller, she told him,  "the robber looks kinda like that guy standing right there at the bus stop.....oh wait a minute...that IS him."  Was him.  He was still holding the bag.
