A quick prayer for the departed...

I am very sad to report that Furp has been killed in a motorcycle accident. Furp was a friend and Anthrocon staff member; many may remember him as the man with the medical bag who was the first one we called when we had any urgent health issues.

His boss told me the following:

Last night, Patrick (Furp) was riding his motorcycle near the 29 Palms Marine Corps Base (California) where he works. He was struck by a drunk driver, and died. The driver, a Marine, is currently in custody.

I'm going to miss him.  =(

Sorry, man. Damned DUI's. Prayers sent for all!

I served at 29, and DUI's are stupidly common. Probably a combination of the general crappyness of Marine Corps life combined with the overwhelming crappyness of that craphole base. I'm sorry man.

A motorcyclist died along Highway 62 in Twentynine Palms on Wednesday night when a vehicle turned in front of him and he struck it while traveling 65 mph, coroner's officials said.

Patrick Reed, 29, of Twentynine Palms was riding east on the 62 at Indian Cove Road at 5:52 p.m. when he crashed. He was thrown from his bike and pronounced dead at the scene, San Bernardino County coroner's officials said.
