We all read about the Alabama maniac.  So here perhaps is a more normal situation where the truck driver defended himself.

Desputies investigate shooting at West Knox County warehouse

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn (WVLT) - The Knox County Sheriff's Department is investigating after a man was shot to death in West Knox County.

Authorities responded to a warehouse at 10720 Lexington Drive just before 2:30 Wednesday morning. When they arrived on scene they found the body of a male victim. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to a sheriff department spokesperson the victim knocked on the cab of a semi, left then returned and threw a rock through the window of the semi waking the driver. He returned again and attempted to climb into the semi, that is when police say the truck driver shot the man.

The truck driver has been taken to Baptist Hospital West to be treated for chest pain.

The names of the truck driver and the victim are not being released at this time.

No word yet on whether any charges will be filed.

Contrast this with the recent shooting in SC of the NY trucker where he was found dead.  There is a thread on it over on .ORG.  I didn't want to link to it.

Truckers routinely carry a fair amount of money (cash) with them.  Truck stops are now offering a "cash" price for fuel which encourages more cash being carried.  One complete fill up is a pretty good chunk of change.

This can be partially offset by requesting medical assistance from responding police officers for something like, for example, chest pains.

Looks like the TV station keeps updating the story.  Details were pretty lean in the initial story.  My guess is that the truck driver feared for his life at 2:30AM especially after someone breaks his window.  I doubt the perp knew there was someone home!!  Sounds funny almost!
