The entrepreneur who supports 'ObaMao'

An innovative businessman's novelty T-shirt has started a fashionable revolution

Combine an old political icon with a new one, and what do you get? ObaMao.

Liu Mingjie created a computer-aided design that superimposed US President Barack Obama's face over that of China's late Chairman Mao.

So it's now Obama's face sporting that famous green Communist Party cap with a red star on T-shirts, bags and coin purses sold at Liu's shop, Stefan, located in the trendy, touristy lakeside shops of Houhai in central Beijing.

There's more to this article, but it's odd that no one talks about what sort of political statements the shirts might be making.

The Chinese are capitalists.  They do not care about any imputed political statement as long as the product sells.

As for "Stephan" - he needs to get a web store set up ASAP - he will have customers lined up across the internet.  And those customers will have differing political views but all wind up wearing the same tshirt.

I want a tshirt, but only if the ink has melamine in it.

stay safe.

The article was not written by a capitalist, but by a journalist.  Don't they care?

I'm not sure, but my guess is that capitalists do not care very much if articles are written by journalists, as long as the capitalists can make a buck off it.

Well, this is true up to a point. Never forget, the Chinese are run by the communist Chinese army. At any point, the government (army) will smash the businesses.

  I meant that I expected the journalist to care.  Which is why I thought he/she would have written something about it.

China is not a capitalist society - having one of the most overregulated markets in the world - but many of their people are true capitalist enterpreneurs nonetheless.

some people will want it because they don't like socialism and some will want because they do support socialism...I wish I was selling them!

Why not make some up?  As the Chinese have no respect for intellectual property, there should be no legal issues with it.

If you look closely, the Chinese Army leaders ARE the business owners....as long as the businesses make a profit, the Army will let them operate...and cash in themselves...
