Didn't they try to say the same stuff about Reagan also?  I seem to remember that.

The same cartoonist got in another jab, using the same cartoon couple. I think his creative juices are drying up.

Wow.  I'm totally gonna stop cheering Palin on now that some cartoony semi-upright wet mop with downs syndrome made a second jab at her.

In my view a piece of paper acknowledging that one spent an extra 4 or so years in school is about as meaningful as being in the senior play in high school.

Being able to rationally, lawfully and beneficially apply what you learn in the educational system is the benchmark.

Short version is that Newsweek wanted to run a story about how Palin is bad news for the Republicans, because she's just a bimbo and shouldn't be taken seriously.  To illustrate the point, their cover photo was an image stolen from a months old Runner's World article.  It shows Palin casually posing in a jogging outfit, wearing skimpy tight shorts and looking about as un-serious as she possibly could.

The pic was perfect for an exercise magazine doing a story about running and fitness.  It was utterly inappropriate for discussion on a politician's credentials and qualifications, unless they think a woman's qualifications all lie in her legs.

tyme:

If GWB is short bus material, what does that make you, since I suspect you lack his Harvard MBA?

In fairness, there are lots of Arab princes who have ivy league type MBAs, Phds, and assorted letters after their names that would be lucky to get an xbox working without help.

But yeah, obviously GW had more brains than John Kerry.  I don't think anyone could fairly watch the foolishness that was the Kerry campaign and say otherwise.

What I liked about Sarah Palin was that she obviously didn't spend all her life preparing for nuclear wars, reading foreign policy magazines, and immersing herself in "big boy" (ie, good ol' boy) political topics.  Unfortunately, most Americans don't seem to be happy having someone who will only know how to run day-to-day life in America versus managing far-flung parts of the world alongside the stock markets.

I bet that a down-to-earth sensible person like Palin could manage far-away international affairs better than members of the intellectual class.

I think you'd be surprised how many Americans want some simple commn sense applied to foreign affairs.  Protect America, preferably by using cooperation and shared interest, or by using direct means if necessary.  Treat our allies like allies, and our enemies/adversaries as enemies/adversaries.  Don't rely on empty threats like the UN.  Don't pass the buck.  When visitingforeign countries, advocate for America, don't treat America as if it were something distasteful.

I would bet that a down-to-earth sensible person like Palin could manage far-away international affairs better than members of the intellectual class.

I'm in agreement with HTG. Stop the presses.

Democracy is based on the idea that ordinary people can run the country. That's the whole point.

Well, it would certainly be worth a try, anyway ;)

Yeah, and heaven forbid we actually elect a politician who doesn't see tax revenue and their personal piggy bank and reelection fund.

There are some very basic truths in life that many of those in the elite seem not to have learned: peace is achieved by strength; don't spend more than you make; don't steal (including taxes); etc.

Maybe it does take a "simple" person to run this country properly. I'm not saying Palin is the one (she has a lot to learn) but we need someone whose beliefs are founded in reality.

The unsimplistic overly educated intellectual folks who are constantly pointing out how everything is soooo complicated and that we need to massage every nuance have seemingly gotten us into quite a number of complications.  Must make 'em happy.

Simple Common Sense is undervalued and underutilized.  Time for a change that really does provide some hope.

Then there is the part about how Newsweek did not own or buy rights to the photo, above and beyond its inappropriate context. All that hate backfires. Every jab, book sales up, up, up. So many women look at the Newsweek cover and somewhere in the dark recess of their little pea brain they do not think "Oh what a skank bimbo!" They think "wish I could be a grandma that has a shot at ruling the world with legs like that!"
