I've done my duty...
« on: November 03, 2009, 08:26:37 AM »
...and hopefully enough voters in Virginia will do so to give a Republican sweep.

Of all the things I feared Obama's election would bring, I didn't realize we'd finally be able to clear out these Democrat obstructionists in Virginia.

Perhaps we'll be able to carry concealed into an establishment that serves <gasp> ALCOHOL <gasp> next year. (For those unfamiliar with Virginia laws, we are not allowed to carry concealed into any establishment that serves alcohol. We can, however, carry openly into those same establishments.)
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

On my way to the polls in a bit, actually, after I eat and shower.

Wow!  With no hopey-changey to vote for, the polls were literally empty.  Nobody in front of me, it took me longer to walk into the poll from the parking lot than to actually vote.

I walked right in. Gave my name and voted. I would say walked right out, but apparently we didn't change my wife's name when we got married so that took another 3 whole minutes to work out.

She caused a line up of 7 people while they worked it out!!!  :O

Here's hoping.  Good luck, Virginia!

I recall the '08 presidential election being a quick in and out.  I think I came in after the morning rush, but I recall the ballot machine only having collected something in the low double digits, and I think there was only one other voter.  In a large residential area, I had expected more.  Maybe people prefer voting in the evening?

Having worked as an election judge, the people who vote during the day are retired, unemployed, or kept men.   =D

People with jobs come in and vote after they get off work.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Or, they're telecommuting today.

All mail in ballots here, but mine is in the mail.

Actually, I was working a weird shift at the time, so none of the above.

Can I apply to be retired or "kept"?  I could do unemployed on my own, but the other two sound more fun.
