Good knife deal
« on: November 09, 2009, 10:59:06 AM »
I understand that Kershaw is pretty popular among those who know knives.  I'm not an afficianado, but this looked like a note-worthy deal to me.

Thank you!  That is a good deal.

Seems like a decent deal.  Kershaw is a decent brand.  Not the best, but far from bad.  I would put them below the likes of Benchmade, but better than Schrade, Buck, setc.

Other online retailers have it for $39, so $19 is great.  I'm not familiar with the steel they're using (Sandvik 14C28N), but a framelock is better than a liner lock IMO.  You could do a lot worse for twice or even three times the price.

It is interesting that they say it is made in the US.  I thought Kershaw's stuff was all made in Taiwan or Japan.

Not 154CM or ATS-34, but I ordered two regardless, blowing through some of my REI dividends in the process.

Thanks, Bridgewalker!

For those with some patience, Steepandcheap.com frequently has knives on deep discount. Lately, I've been seeing the SOG Flash II for $20-ish.

My new knife is waiting for me at REI.  I also have a new tent waiting for me at a different store.  This free site-to-store shipping stuff is kinda neat.  First time I've ever used it, and I used it twice in a week.

Thx, bridgewalker.

A Storm II is my EDC. Walmart sells it for around $30, IIRC.

It's a great knife, especially for the price. I have the money to carry a nice Benchmade, but I choose a knife around $30 simply because if I loose it, it doesn't hurt as bad.

It's a nice, slim lightweight knife of a good medium size. Not huge, not tiny. Just right.

Oh, so it has a four-inch blade?  Cool.   =)

3.5" blade. I also have a Gerber Gator II and a Buck 110, and both are larger in physical size, too big for pocket carry IMHO, but I managed in the past.

Ok, so I've had the knife for just over 2 months.  My dad has the other one I ordered. I don't know how much use his gets, but I've somewhat abused this one.

Really not a bad 3.5" folder for $19.00 - a Ken Onion design, ok grade of stainless, holds an edge pretty well, albeit a lot heavier than my Benchmade Eclipse.  I'm not a liner lock kind of guy, but I'm getting used to it. I've since taken the much more expensive Benchmade out of circulation for the most part, unless I want to carry a lighter pocket knife on a given day.

The last 3 or 4 days it has been recycling the same stuff over and over. They must have tons of rubber bags and sunglasses they are trying to dump.

FYI, Cabelas has this knife on sale now for $25

I've got a couple Kershaw knives in 13c26. Very well made knives that will take a great edge, but IME, won't keep it. I recently picked up a spare Buck Vantage Pro in S30V that holds an edge much better.
A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.
