Couldn't altitude simply be calculated from lat/long?

To a degree.  If you are standing on the ground.  And if it hasn't changed since USGS did their last survey.

Lat/long doesn't help determine altitude if you're in a plane, or on top of a building, etc.
"Rev, your picture is in my King James Bible, where Paul talks about "inventors of evil."  Yes, I know you'll take that as a compliment."  - Fistful, possibly highest compliment I've ever received.

Fly320s, at first glance I thought Michael Vick had hijacked your account! :O
=| I see what you mean. No, it is an airplane dog-fighting game.

Maybe I should write a Michael Vick version.

Streaming my evil rightwing hate radio talk shows in places I usually can't get a usable radio signal. Almost worth it for that alone.

It is worth it for that alone !   >:D
