Tomorrow we're having new flooring put down in the kitchen and half bath. So, it was my job to remove the vanity/sink and toilet.
1. Turn off water at meter. No problem.
2. Turn off water at wall shutoff valves for sink. One valve starts to leak. Grab bucket from basement.
3. Move sink/vanity into living room. No problem except for complaint from wife about vanity/sink in living room.
4. Turn off water at wall shutoff valve for toilet. Valve leaks. Grab another bucket from basement.
5. Remove flex hose from bottom of toilet tank. Plastic connection leaks. Grab plastic container from basement.
6. Attempt to remove nut from captive bolt holding toilet to floor. Bolt/nut combination spins.
7. Call flooring installer to ask if he can install around toilet. Problem solved.
8. Drive to hardware store in major snowstorm. Normal drive time 15 minutes. Today, 35 minutes.
9. Forgot to bring valves and flex hose to match. Drive home again in snow storm.
10. Return to hardware store with valves and flex hose. Clerk picks out new ones.
11. Drive home again in snow storm.
12. Clerk picked wrong size. Drive back to hardware store in snow storm.
13. Older clerk picks correct size valves. Conversation elicits remark from him about proposed concealed weapons law leading to people shooting each other at restaurants. Leave hardware store.
14. Install shutoff valve for sink, shutoff valve for toilet, and flex hose for toilet.
15. Turn on water at meter.
16. Flex hose leaks at toilet connection.
17. Turn off water at toilet shutoff valve. Call brother in law for plumber.
All of this took 3 1/2 hours, and I didn't accomplish anything more than getting the vanity/sink into the living room, which ticked off my wife anyway.
I hate plumbing.
