Fingers, plural? Ouch. That can't help the ole typing...

Didn't actually break it, but I got one mashed under a wooden waster while sparring. Looked like uncooked beef sausage for about a week. No fun.

It does indeed suck. Most of my right hand fingers still freak out now and then. Random huge bursts of pain, and they broke nearly ten years ago. Have fun with that.  =|

Been there, done that, burned the T-shirt. Tried to catch a bale of hops; broke two and sprained a third. Never try to catch something that weighs as much as you if it's falling from chest-height.

Fightin'.  Specifically, Krav Maga fight class.

My training partner was blocking hook punches.  I was hook punching.

My partner misjudged where I was going to hit.  Caught the punch with his elbow.  To his credit, the defense worked.  =)

Hrm.  Yea.  I did that once.  Completely accidentally.  Someone threw one of those glass mugs at me, and I caught it with an elbow.  Worked better than I thought, but I could never get it right when I was intentionally trying to do it.

So splint up the finger, inject it with a local and get back on the mat.

Yea, I'm trying to figure out if I can still fight with a splinted finger.

Maybe if I substitute palm strikes for straight punches for a while?  Hrm.

I hyperextended my left ring finger lifting a TV carton.  Being as strong as I am I stress the body structure from time to time.  Now when I make a fist, the finger locks up and I have to manually extend that finger....chris3

Broke the little toe on my left foot back the last weekend of January as I was moving.  Slipped on some ice and either landed on it wrong or it twisted up underneath me.  Still hurts to this day.

At least yours bends inwards.  I'm still trying to get my pinky finger (busted Sept 2009) to touch my palm, and to raise it up off a flat surface.  Last time I saw the Doc he said I need to keep doing the rehab exercises and maybe in another year I will have a normal grip.  As for being able to lift it up from a flat surface - maybe yes, maybe no.

I've had to give up the full-size pistols/revolvers as I do not have a three-finger grip.  On the other hand, I'm a whole lot better with the various snubbies & subcompacts.

stay safe.

Well, crap.

My primary care physician sent me to a orthopedic specialist with my X-ray in hand.

He thinks I should get surgery on it.  The x-ray shows a chunk of bone sheared clean off, that is part of the last joint on that pinky.  He recommends having the bone pinned back together so I don't end up with stiffness + arthritis later in life.

Damn, Nick.  I know you're an advanced DIY kinda guy, but x-rays with your cell phone camera?  Impressive.

As for the bone, I'd probably do what the doc suggests.  I know there are risks either way, but some things don't get much better on their own and that looks like one of them.  I've messed up a few fingers and I'm very thankful that they work as well as they do.  Good luck.
