What we learned from this thread:

1. C&SD listens to Alex Jones.

2. Alex Jones is about to recant.

If Obama can win a Nobel Peace Prize, Alex Jones can be Galileo.

Why must you point out such tears in the fabric of reality?  In a sane world, both would be backup DJs at a third-rate liberal arts school radio station.

Oh, and Galileo would kick AJ's *expletive deleted*ss from here to Rome, stopping only to shove a telescope up it.

I saw that tv show on the history channel too, it was a well done job discrediting most of the
claims of the truthers, Alex Jones infuriates me-not the truther stuff-that's for morons, but him hitching his wagon
to the gun rights movement, I don't want those morons representing gun owners.

Agreed.  The AJ types do us a lot of harm.

It'd be fair to note he does make some legit points.

Unfortunately (for us), I believe the legit points he makes are mostly overshadowed by his nutcase behavior.

Agreed.  In light of my militia group's fifteen minutes of fame, Alex Jones has mentioned his support for us, mixed in with some fiery rhetoric, more than once.  The current Michigan Militia is not an anger-driven organization, and his demeanor portrays us as such.

AJ seems to have most of his facts right, but makes too many illogical leaps of confusion.   =|

Now you guys have made me google Alex Jones so I could be hip and informed.  Not impressed.  I think I was better off not knowing who he was.

I think PJTV's coverage of the Denver Mint event goes a long way to showing AJ's actions outside of the studio.

That's a lot of acronyms and events I am not familiar with.

It's easier to simply show: Chaos at the Denver Mint by PajamasMediaTV

Yep.  Unfortunately he's an entertainer before anything else and that leads him down some kooky paths to target a wider audience.  Turns a lot of people off but what else is he going to fill his show with?  The crux of his stance is, like most libertarians, that smaller government is better.  So, fill the time with as much stuff as you can to make various governments downright evil and dangerous.

Not to defend Jones...

But if we think that we are going to defeat The Beast with reason alone, we are really kidding ourselves.  We are dealing with fanatical and implacable zealots, and right now we seem to be lacking any real connection to our instinct for self-preservation.  Grasping that is not about "going crazy," it is about really being who we are, fully integrated, and recognizing the proper place for passion.  Before this is over we will have to find the right measure of response to what is happening around us, and just being perfectly mannered tea partiers may not cut it.
