I would have thought that you had one and used it reguarly. Huh.

They are fun...lots and lots of fun. Be careful with them, of course.

Oh, they are fun.  Try turning off the fuel gas and just cut on pure oxygen. [popcorn]

Nope, I actually do almost all of my cutting with a bandsaw.  I also have a big abrasive cutoff saw, but much like the torch, it is mostly disused because of all the sparks/smoke/heat it gives off.  Way too many combustibles to use either in my current workshop.

Just pay attention to all the safety stuff, especially the ones dealing with acetelyne pressure and keeping everything on the oxygen side grease/oil free.

Or wait until you've had a "few" cold ones and decide to cut that fuel tank in half.  :O

But I don't completely remember that night. ;)

God I love those, Next on my toy list.
I cave torches, a 250 amp miller mig welder and an old L tech 370 amp tig box I use mostly for stick welding though.
I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

In A&P school, the instructor for another class went out in the hangar with one of those 3' diameter balloons, and filled it.

The resounding BANG was felt through half the facility and drew everyone else into the hangar to see how many had died.  Just the instructor, and laughing from seeing the looks on our faces.   ;/

When something goes boom in an environment like that, it's never funny until you realize nobody was hurt and nothing was damaged (except eardrums and gray hair).  =)

It was all fun and games until we ran out of soft containers.

Then I ran.

thermal lances need good ventilation  real good
It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Lasers are getting there too...

Warning: Extremely dangerous is an understatement to the power of 1W of laser power. Sucker won't cut metal, well, aluminum foil if you painted it black or red, maybe... but it's a start.  =D

If you know anything about laser pointer lore, you know that 1 Watt is INSANE. And 1 Watt of BLUE at under $200 is just plain nutz.  [tinfoil]

Let me know when we have light sabers.

Never, because they violate the laws of physics and thermodynamics in a dozen-odd ways.  =(

And the power-cell that could have enough energy density to make a lightsaber work like that for hours on end would make a very good weapon in of itself. Something to fill in the gap between conventional and nuclear warheads quite nicely.

Some guy went and built a thermal lance (cutting torch) that runs on pure oxygen and the fat from bacon (well, prosciutto)
Prosciutto? I believe that would be blasphemy or heresy or something like that...  =|
