It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Your Guy: "There are some titled people with opinions. They're wrong."
Me: Prove it.
YG: They belong to an educated elite and other people think they're wrong too.
Me: Why? Can you prove them wrong?
YG: ???

I don't disagree with YG's opinion; I share it in fact.

But there are scientific principles being violetaed:
1. Unverified models
2. Questionable data
3. Alarmist extrapolation of questionable conclusions.

YMMV
