All I remember his him saying I had orders to sub school in Groton, then he said "Wait, you have really bad eyesight, you can't be on a sub. pilots physical blah blah." and then he showed me a list of other duty stations and I got to pick what I wanted. How often does the Navy let you do that:lol:

My mother was PISSED because I stayed on the west coast. She said I did it on purpose to stay away from her. She was right. >:D

Oh, my eyesight is/was like 20/800. I see at 20 ft what a 20/20 sees at 800 ft. A tad worse than 20/200.  ;)

Yeah, is there anything in a sub that's more than about four feet away ?   ;/

Is hovering over water different than hovering over land?

Well, you don't sink if you hit the land.  =D

The major issue is spray and reduced visibility, possibly drowning your victim with downwash if on a rescue.

I'm so contrarian that I didn't respond to the thread.

And the bottom... Or do you guys really settle right down in the mud like they do on the Seaview?

Can you guys really send an electrical charge through the hull to fend off giant octopi? [ar15]

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

^^^ I have this book.  My ex-wife was a Chief Corpsman.  Her ex-husband was a Chief Quartermaster.  He did a couple of tours of duty on the USS Parche in the late 90's when it was stationed at Bangor.  He would just smile and nod when asked questions about prolonged deployments to the North Pacific.

I've got that book, as well.  A very interesting read.  I need to dig it out and read it again.

Nope.  Mine is a hard cover.  I like me hard books.
