I thought the plan was to sell them shares of the shallow-water Gulf fields that Obama has said cannot be drilled.  Who screwed up and gave them land-based shares?

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

Let's see... we buy shiploads of cheap plastic crap from them and they use the money to buy scarce and essential natural resources - sounds like a deal to me  ;/

Plastic comes from oil.

They gots to get the oil from somewhere.

I just wish they bought it from us, so we could make a profit off it, rather than buying the land and then realizing the full profit of the oil's value.

As the dollar declines China's purchase of natural resources in the US will increase.

HIGHLAND LIGHT
Norman Blake
1977+/-

All up and down the Blue Ridge Mountain chain they're strippin' coal,
Sellin' it across the sea to Japan, so I'm told.
See the mighty wheels of progress turn and the lanes of commerce run.
A cornucopia of junk it flows from the land of the rising sun.

All across this mighty country, friend, the oak trees turn to gold,
But we can't afford our timber; we cannot buy our coal,
'Cause the foreigners want houses, lifestyles like ours they see,
So we trade our own resources for transistorized TV's
7-11 was a part time job.

I would prefer the US made what we need, kept Americans employed, maintained our financial independence, and stopped mortgaging our future to overseas interests.  Oh, that's right, we already blew it!
