Phoenix PD Sergeant killed - my former nephew
« on: October 19, 2010, 07:57:57 PM »
Sgt. Sean Drenth of the Phoenix Police Dept., was killed last night, found shot to death near the Az. State Capitol building around 11:00 PM.  His wife, mother, grandparents, and my ex-wife are devastated.
I used to bounce five year old Sean on my knee so many years ago.  My ex- and I gave him some birthday and Christmas gifts that just drove his Mom bonkers. Fun for him, very annoying for her.  That is what an aunt and uncle are for, I suppose.
He was a great kid, grew up to be a good man.  I have not seen him in many years, and yet it still hurts.  The memories I have of him are good ones.

The story is here.

ETA: Coincidentally, my company is sending me to Phoenix again on business this Saturday.  I do not have confirmation on when the services will be, but maybe I will be able to attend, depending on when it is held.
My ex- and two of my children are traveling there tomorrow to be with Sean's family.

If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

Sorry.
Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?

We honor his memory. May the killer(s) meet swift and certain justice.

My deepest sympathy.  I hope you can attend.  Please thank his family for his service.

May the killer(s) meet swift and certain justice.

Condolences and prayers sent...
Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

The funeral service for Sean was held this morning. It was a very moving event with hundreds of people were in attendance.  He was well respected and very well liked among his peers in the Phoenix Police Department.  There were many testimonials both to the wonderful family man he was, and to the outstanding way he served the people of Phoenix for almost thirteen years.
He will be very sorely missed, not just by his family, but also by his extensive network of friends, people that he touched deeply over the years.
I sure wish I could have known him better in his adult years.

I don't know how I missed this the first time around.

My belated condolences.
