Bunch of sissies with your city hams!

What you need is a nice dry-cured country ham - one you have to soak for three days or so, and scrape off all that purty green stuff where the flavor comes from.

And I disagree with their recommendation to use 7-UP when frying - Mello Yello is much better. http://www.melloyello.com/

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

AZRedhawk44,

An old camp dodge is to punch a few holes in that can with a church key, throw it on the fire until the packing gelatin melts and can be poured off.  Replace the gelatin with the liquid of your choice, return the can to the fire until everything is heated through.

The original suggestion for this used Italian salad dressing, which can be surprisingly good if the dressing is good.  Other choices include stout, wine, BBQ sauce, etc.
Gee, I'd love to see your data!

Smithfield is too mass production, and too salty for my taste. I grew up on Kite ham http://kiteshams.com/ since they were in my home county. Pretty good, but not the best.  I stand by my choice, y'all (<---proper usage for subject) need to ferret out a Turner. When they say sugar cured that doesn't mean city ham. It's still a super top secret mix of salt/saltpetre, but with sugar. It's still a ham that can hang out around the place for a few years and still be edible. The museum in Smithfield has a ham that is about 100 years old, not looking too edible anymore though.

I think we've advanced past Spam. Because now we have...

I'm sorry, but I love Spam. Keep up this food thread thing and I will be forced to start the potted meat and scrapple threads.  As further evidence of my lack of taste, or fine taste depending on how far away from me you are, I last night enjoyed a fried egg, grilled green chili, bacon cheeseburger. With beer of course. Not real popular with the co-workers today.

All wrong.

The best ham comes from the northern edge of the Missouri Ozarks:

I take those with me to the boundary waters because you can't take cans or glass in there.  SPAM with shells n' cheese is pretty tasty in the wilderness.

Only a heathen would eat sweet cornbread.

Cornbread should only have three ingredients. White cornmeal, buttermilk and only enough self-rising flour to hold it together.

Fine I'm a Heathen then.  Cornbread should be slightly sweet, but let's not restart the Cornbread and Yankee's War.....

I'm out of eggs, milk, bread, and whole bunch of other stuff.  I think I have just enough food to make to 6 Nov.  =D
