Am I a weird-o? (involves the 1911)
« on: December 29, 2010, 05:52:37 PM »
So is it weird that I signed up at M1911.org just so I could look at the pictures of guns* that have been posted there?

And that I've sent a goodly portion of my last two evenings scrolling slowly through them. (As well as reading range reports etc.)

Mind you I don't even own one (yet) and have limited experience with the platform.

In my defense, and just from a strictly aesthetic viewpoint, I think 5" 1911s along with S&W 3" to 5"  N-frames are the best looking handguns.

If it was Glocks, I'd suggest a therapist. 1911's? No. Not weird.

You are a wierd-o.  You need help.  Unfortunately, it appears there is very little that can help you.

All you wanted to do was look at pictures of 1911s?

You have no desire to fondle them?  No desire to strip them bare, and then do things to their internals and dress them up with pretties that you bought just for them?

You, sir, are sick!

Next, you will be telling us that you have done something besides swap stocks on those N-frames - maybe even put a laser on one.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

But, not because of the 1911 thing.

M1911 is a bottomless pit if you don't save yourself now you could spend days poking around in there looking at pictures and reading up on ways to pimp a 1911.

No, you are not wierd, and your demonstrated dedication entitles you to be invited to the big 100th anniversay celebration of the adoption of the 1911 on March 29, 2011.

No, of course not.

Is it weird that men, except for Mabs, like to look at photos of beautiful women, even if they are naked?

No, especially if they are shooting 1911s.

Ultimately, what is weird is calling yourself a man, yet not owning a 1911....

As a man, I owned a 1911 once....then I got a Ruger Blackhawk and a S&W K-38.....so now I'm an evolved man....

Is it weird that I don't like shooting a 1911?  I think it has something to do with the fact I am a southpaw.  The 1911 I shot, I couldn't work.  I think they are a beautiful thing, but not something for me.

The best handgun shooter I know is a lefty, and he prefers a 1911.

Ambi safety and possibly mag release, and you get low bore axis, balance, and the best trigger possible.

I've always felt one of the reasons I took so well to the 1911 is because I'm left handed. I add ambi safeties to mine, but otherwise to me things seem easier to get to than they would be for a righty.

There's a lot of stuff I don't do well, but shooting 1911s is something that I can say I do well. I had my Glock at the range with me a couple of weeks ago, and as always, was amazed at how crappily I shoot it. That goes double for most anything double action.

The 1911 has always felt like an extension of my body. At least the full and Commander size. I shoot my Micro-Compact way better than my Glock, but still not as well as the bigger 1911s.

Yeah, the few I've shot have been amazing. Even though I don't have a lot of time with the model I know I do better with an arched MSH than a straight one.

What's funny is going from a 1911 right to a GLOCK or vice-versa in the same shooting session and seeing how differently the guns point.
