So I had my first day of Rotation yesterday at a new pharmacy.
One of the tech's kids was in lock-down at school because some snot-nose 7th grader took a gun to school and started aiming at people.
He was tackled in short order, and no one was hurt.

Apparently, this tech is very pro-gun, and in everyone's face about it. All of the pharmacist's seemed to view him as a "gun nut".  They even gloated at the fact that this happened at his daughter's school, and that he was pro-gun.

I found all of this to be very distasteful, and instead of showering them in logic (useless), I played along.  >:D

I went along with their logic, and then started:

Me-"Did you hear about that guy in China that stabbed and killed a bunch of people"
Them- "Ohh yeah, that was awful"
Me- "I guess there's no hope in the world when even gun control can't stop murderers"
them- "Well, I hadn't really..."
Me-"I guess it's a good thing those kids were willing to be violent and do what they needed to stop that 7th grader"
Them-"Yeah"

It's like I'm Matt Damon in Inception, planting ideas in their minds.  :lol:


Have you guys ever "played along" in order to plant seeds of dissonance?

You just have to use back door logic... They get twisted, and then start thinking.

Sure...to a point.  If I'm in a lose, lose situation (especially in a work related environment), I just try to stick to the facts and generally stay neutral.  Educating people is the key, but some people are so removed from the shooting world that it's nearly pointless.  The "in your face gun guys" probably bother me more than they do the antis.  I think they do more harm than good...and they very often do seem kind of nutty, even to me.

All the time, but it's difficult. 
I like to see immediate results, regardless of the validity of the results.
7-11 was a part time job.

I should mention that I left it a gray area, neither being anti or pro gun. I simply want to build rapport at the pharmacy before becoming involved in political discussions. (Especially since one of these pharmacist decides my grade for the semester.)

Eh, he came back after dropping his daughter off at home.
The topic shifted to the crisis in Mexico, and he started talking about, "YEAH WELL I DON'T EVEN GIVE A CRAP.  I CAN PICK YOU OFF AT 1,000 YARDS WITH MY  270"
This guy was the most unprofessional tech I've ever had the displeasure of working with, and I believe he does the RTKBA community a great dis-service. Hopefully I can right some of his wrongs.

I once met a woman in Lowes parking lot who confronted me about the sound of gunshots reaching her house from the sportsman's club which I was a member of after she saw a member sticker for the club on my truck.  In under 2 minutes I had her stating that she was going to be writing all of her representatives about her desire to see suppressors legalized in NYS.   =D

This is what I observed. Two of the pharmacists were rattling off typical rhetoric, and when I started, I could envision their brains slowing down with the extra effort required to think critically.

Seriously, though, how should I deal with that pharmacy tech?  Should I just leave him be, or try to educate him on some of the "HURR DURR" that he spouts?
