"Official" Blackberry thread
« on: January 27, 2011, 09:45:51 PM »

Saw the official android thread, and thought...  Well, why not have one for a real smart phone?   >:D

Here's some apps I've found very handy

Wordpress for Blackberry

Excellent remote capacities and a lot easier to use than the onboard web browser.

BBNotePad

Simple app, but it works well.

FileScout

Best app for moving your files around.  I have no idea why Blackberries don't come with something similar installed.  Install it and choose the free version.

Mobipocket Reader

Handy ebook reader.  Had to move the files to its happy location, but aside from that, no complaints.

The Weather Channel

Very straightforward weather app.

BBSSH - Blackberry Secure Shell

Still in development, but works for me.  Handy for working on servers remotely.

Opera Mini

Much better than the default browser.
"Rev, your picture is in my King James Bible, where Paul talks about "inventors of evil."  Yes, I know you'll take that as a compliment."  - Fistful, possibly highest compliment I've ever received.

I loaded a ballistics app, but it wasn't up to snuff. Then again, it was free.

The most useful app has been one that allows me to use the Blackberry as a cell modem without having to pay an extra $30 a month for that service through the cellular provider.

Here's the loadout on my 9700.

On the Home screen:

Blackberry News Feeds
BeWeather Free
ExtraLight

In the Applications folder:

OliveTree BibleReader
YouVersion Bible
Mobile Banking
Weather Channel
Google Maps
Dictionary.com
Opera Mini
Amazon.com
Newegg
BBNotePad
DocumentsToGo
Blackberry App World
Crackberry App Store

In a folder called Messaging:

Twitter
Facebook

I have my home screen arranged so there is only three rows of icons.  Everything I use a lot is on the home screen, and anything I use occasionally is in folders.

My 9700 is currently running OS 5.0.0.979.  I messed around with a leaked version of  6.0.0.424 but it had too many issues for me to want to keep using it.  I'll just stick with OS 5 until the new Blackberry phones come out this fall.

I'm pretty sure there's only about 4 Blackberry users left in the world.  We just heard from three of them.  What are the odds that the other 25% of the market is on APS? :)

I just had homemade blackberry jelly (from wild berries) on homemade 100% whole wheat toasted bread with homemade butter.

Since I used to support BBs for Disney I can guarantee there are more than 4.  The last order, before I left, was for 3500....

My wife and I just got the Curve 3Gs and they are great.  I hate touch screen phones.

I used to manage a couple hundred.   =D

Most enterprises should and do run Blackberry.  It's architecture is well designed and very secure.

Blackberries are good, but I prefer raspberries.

From an IT standpoint I love the blackberries.  Good centralized control.

As a user I hate the touchscreen on my 1st generation Storm which I need to replace one of these days.

We have 50+ older Curve devices. I like them a lot, both as a user and as an administer.

RIM can tend to bend us over the proverbial barrel at times but those are rare.

AT&T, Sprint and some of the bigger carriers have limited coverage in rural parts of the country, which we happen to inhabit.

When I was with the large medical group, all the physicians and administrators were issued Blackberries. In healthcare, much to the wailing and gnashing of teeth of the IT people, iPhones now have to be accommodated, since so many physicians use them and will not give them up.

Got my Torch last month. Love the big screen and slider keyboard...I can text with one hand (you wouldn't believe how handy that can be...  ;) ). Still haven't had time to look for apps, but I did find a great app from Jared that converts the flash into an impressively bright flashlight. I don't use it a lot (already carry two), but it's a good backup.

Thanks for the links...

I have a BB tour.  Not too many complaints here, but about all I do with it is talk.  I need reading glasses just to see my 19" monitor at home....so I don't think the Droid or Iphone offer me any great advantages.

I got the Crackberry Curve 3g today (it was free).  Haven't done a thing with it other then turn it off and plug it in to recharge.

I figure I've got 3-4 days of being snowed in to play with it.

APS you've been warned.

Drunk and playing with a new toy of technology far beyond my level of understanding.   I might create a blackhole and destroy the universe by accident.

We should be so lucky.   :P

Where did you get it from? i have not found one that worked yet.
Or that was simple enough for a non-programmer (me) to use.
I will say that the Iphones are cool but.... I would never go to at&t (not a prob now) and the battery life sucks.
I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?
A few months-mods

You can do the same with the Blackberry Desktop Software if you make a couple simple edits to an included XML file:

I currently have the iPhone 4. It's nice, I like it, has a ton of apps that I use regularly. With that said, I'm wanting to try the blackberry. I haven't pulled the trigger yet because I dont know what Apps are out there. I have apps on my iPhone that let me create, edit and view ms office docs (word and excel) as well as create PDF docs.

If I ever find that bb apps do the same, I might just grab one.
