The pastor was just following an updated vewrsion of Luke 22:35-38. 

Fortuenately, in my State and can carry at church.

Reminds me of a story I heard years ago . . .

A Quaker, asleep in his upstairs bedroom, was woken by a sound in his house. Retrieving a shotgun, he went downstairs and confronted a burglar.
