Maybe a scam to get enough personal info to pose as you on another check going somewhere else. Scam or not, I usually don't sell to people who can't read. I find it impolite when people try to force you out of the terms of the sale clearly stated.

Yep, scam.  What they'll do is send you a check for way more than the amount and want you to wire them back the remainder.  Of course the check will bounce over the moon shortly thereafter.

That or they will send you the check for the exact amount, let you cash it, then have their "mover" come get your stuff that day, check will then bounce and you will have neither money nor stuff.

Call your friendly local PD and get the name of the head of the detective division. Have them send the check to him, and the street address for police headquarters.

Other than it's obviously a scam...nobody ships a check via 2nd Day Air for used tires on Craigslist.

Ayup.  Cleetus/Roofus/Juan from the nearby trailer park wants to come by in his 30 year old rust bucket pickup and haggle with you for them in cash.
CL is for LOCAL sales.  Anyone who doesn't want to stop by and meet you and shake your hand and pay you cash for it is trying to scam you.

Unless it's rare or just hard to find. I've been unable to locate something for sale locally or on ebay before, but googled up a CL listing from another state. Never wanted any of the things bad enough to try to convince someone I'm not from Nigeria, but I could see it happening.

What I'm saying is that I have no interest in worrying about the person being from Nigeria or not.  I will be looking for a face to face cash transaction if its off craigs list.

I sold a camcorder on CL once.  I, too got several requests for a shipment despite the CASH ONLY LOCAL SALE requirement emblazoned everywhere.  I just told those guys to pound sand.
