My wife and I got a pair of Droid 2's on a 2-for-1 sale(at Verizon) a couple months ago. I have been unimpressed with battery life - it must be charged after every work day - and 3G coverage is sketchy at my house, but overall it does what it's supposed to do. Some apps are neat-o, particularly Google Maps and the various internet-"radio" services.
Get a hard-shell case and screen protectors.
I do not use my phone as an MP3 player due to battery usage concerns... didn't you post a while back about getting a cheapo music player? I'd stick with that(I use a Sansa Fuse 2GB through my work-day, and it can play for a good twelve hours between charges)
Also, do pay for the unlimited data package. I used some 400MB during the first few weeks(granted, I was downloading apps and updates, and using GPS and stuff just to use it, but still...) and the $15 package gets you only 150MB.
