Howdy:

I am dumping every last CD & DVD to a spare HD.  I know some nice free/open source Windows software to do that.

What I don't have is experience with free/open source software that can READ or mount those .iso files from the HD, so when my daughter savages the physical Monsters Inc DVD I can play the .iso from the external HD.

(Note: this also gives me a little more parental control, as the kiddos know how to operate the DVD/TV systems, but can not yet hack into my Windows login.)

Virtual Clone Drive: http://download.cnet.com/Virtual-CloneDrive/3000-20432_4-173879.html

Been using it for quite some time, works great and totally free.

Virtual CloneDrive works and behaves just like a physical CD/DVD drive, however it exists only virtually. Image files generated with CloneDVD or CloneCD can be mounted onto a virtual drive from your hard-disk or from a network drive and used in the same manner as inserting them into a normal CD/DVD drive.

I'm running MagicISO on all of my systems here.

Slow to mount the image from the network but instant if it's on the hard drive.

Thanks for the heads-up on this! It works GREAT!
I might not last very long or be very effective but I'll be a real pain in the ass for a minute!

I've had good experience with PowerISO.
