Blenders
« on: September 21, 2011, 07:40:19 PM »
We're needing a new blender. We've burnt through one cheapie and the replacement isn't looking so good. Needs to be durable, capable of handling ice and leafy green veggies, easy to clean (ours has internal ridges that strawberry seeds stick to and it's a pain to get clean), and ideally not be so loud as to require hearing protection. I found a nice looking commercial unit on CL. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/app/2609414598.html Any thoughts?

If it can blend a (fill in the blank) it should work for you.

Waring makes good, heavy duty blenders. They aren't quiet, though.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

Is there a sanely priced electrical/automated device for crushing ice? My 450 watt, 7spd GE does OK, but still leaves ice chunks and water. The long and short of it is, I consume neough highballs and cocktails to benefit from consistent crushed ice.

Both of my brothers have been impressed by the Ninja blenders.  Instead of just having a set of blades at the bottom you get a whole column of spinning blades.  Works well at making up some fruity crushed iced adult beverages.  That much I can attest to.

They come up on "deal of the day" sites like Woot on a regular basis for $35-$40.

It might be a little noisy.

We've had our Kitchen Aide for several years. I cracked the coupler trying to blend it frozen. But it still worked until I got the new part for about $5.00 and five minutes of work to change.

MrsSmith might have one, unless she's beaten Dumb ass(tm) to death with it.  Although might be a good test of it's durability.

Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.
