« on: October 10, 2011, 09:53:56 AM »
Great way to start they day.  Dropped off the truck at the body shop for some work last night.  Stopped off on the way to work this morning to check it in....  ALl 4 tires slashed.

That blows.

It's sometimes difficult for me to decide if I hate thieves worse, or vandals worse. Thieves at least do something with what they steal. Vandals just destroy for destruction's sake. This is why I like dogs better than people.

So the shop (or their insurance) covers that, right?

Yea right....I am sure the shop as a sign up or on the form that he filled out (for dropping his keys off) has legalese on it absolving it of any damages occurring to any vehicle sitting on their property.

It wasn't actually parked on the shop's property so no recourse there.  they have a secured lot that I couldn't get hte rig into because it was late at night.  I have a police report filed, turns out there has been a rash of slashings in that part of town lately (wish I had known that).

I'll be talking to my insurance folks later today once I get the bill from the tire shop.  I had the tire shop roll their truck.  My rig is up on blocks right now while the tire shop has all the wheels and is replacing the tires.  They will swap the tires back later today.  The body shop has the keys so when the tire shop is done they are going to move it into their secured lot and do their thing.

I am in a fairly homicidal mood at the moment.

Mine is $1000 which ironically is just over what the new tires cost.  I filed a claim anyway in case they take pity on me (pipe dream).

I would be, too. That's $1K of your life they stole from you. For me, that's approx 88 hours of working for me to get that much money saved up...

That really sucks. I hate vandals, too. It makes no sense to me.

You could always make side money taking out vandals by contract paid for by people like you.

Same thing happened to my brother; all four tires slashed, $1k deductible, so insurance wouldn't replace them (it was ~$750 for all four).

And to top it off, while it was sitting waiting for my brother to have time to get the new tires on the battery ran down and died, and needed to be replaced.

Same guy slashed the tires of one of our neighbors and a bunch of other cars in the area, as well.  Police never did find the bastard.

Well, it could have been worse ...

They could have stolen everything out of it and then set it on fire    ;)
