Aircraft gurus correct me if I'm wrong.
« on: December 07, 2011, 08:26:58 PM »
I was getting out of my car to go walk around Fry's for a bit when 4 of these guys flew over, landing at McCarran.
One right after another so I snagged this short video.
My first guess was F/A 18 Hornets
I'm pretty sure I was right.
The audio gives them no justice.  I love low flying aircraft  [popcorn]

One of the F/A 18 variants.

Here is the quick and dirty on how to tell an earlier Hornet from a Super Hornet.

The early Hornet has the round intakes and the Super Hornet has the rectangular intakes.

There are a few other ways but this is the quickest and doesn't require a lot of time to figure out.

In that video looking to see if it was an E/F, aka Super Hornet, I was looking at the under-wing hardpoints and the horizontal stab. Larger more angular control surfaces, longer wing, three under-wing atations on the Supers vs. 2 on the A-D models. Moar pics!!!  =D

I'm so contrarian that I didn't respond to the thread.

Winning! I hadn't studied up on the super.  Now, I know.
