Too bad you don't live in an extremely German area.  Would it be rubbing it in to tell you I can't throw a rock without hitting three places that serve sauerkraut?  And fresh pretty much six out of seven days?

Mike's "variation" is pretty standard fair around here.  There's a diner down the street that can serve it 24/7. In fairly massive portions for a reasonable rate.

mmm, taste that nice corned beef, with lightly fried potatos, and crisp sharp sauerkraut. Can't you just smell it?  Driving you slowly mad?

Think I might go out and try it now.

 =D

Where are you located these days rev?  Driving distance from nova?

Yea, lower South Central PA. 3 hour drive, would be my guess. I could bring some sauerkraut for you.   =D

I'm in Fairfax.

A three hour drive for me is Lewistown.

If you're in South Central, you're probably in the York/Gettysburg/Chambersburg area. From what is generally considered to be Northern Virginia, that's about a 2 hour drive, at best. If I hustle and traffic isn't an issue, I can make Thurmont in 45 minutes if I don't mind.

I have homemade sauerkraut in the freezer, and I have a damned nice looking corned beef brisket in the fridge that I'm going to make for dinner Saturday.

Sunday morning will be hash.

I'm east of there, in Amish country, so tack on another 30-60 minutes depending on time of day, traffic and specific locations.  Hence 3 ish hours.

I use my pressure cooker.

50 minutes and it's perfectly done.

And I'm 30-60 W/NW of Fairfax, so call it 2-3 hrs.   Hmm....

No hash, forgot I was out of potatoes, but I did make two absolutely kick ass Ruben Sandwiches for lunch using yesterday's corned beef and my home made sauerkraut.

It smelled fine when I opened it up and started cooking it this morning.

If you don't hear from me again after tonight you'll know that it wasn't a good idea.

My little girl said she's not going to try it and she put in dibs on all my toys. :)

Corned beef hash.  The only contribution Yankees have made to the nutritional lexicon of breakfast.

I'm pretty sure bacon, sausage and ham are yankee items also.
