A note on little controversies.
« on: May 24, 2012, 12:33:03 AM »
By little controversies, I mean those cases that pop up here and there, that the country blabs about for a while. It could be a teacher with a porn film in her past, or something more serious, like a guy getting shot and killed in Florida.

And everybody on the internet/radio/TV has an opinion, no matter how much we know about the case. And people get really mad at those with the opposite opinion.

At times like that, I'm really thankful that the decision about what to do will be made by local people who can actually see the situation first-hand, or by the people who are affected by the issue.

(I'm not discounting that outsiders can't have good insights, or that local authorities might be corrupt.)

The only true shape is square!  I mean, unless you like round, in which case I can see your point, although it does not agree with the majority and some may even consider it an inferior product.  But people should be allowed to choose their own choices, shouldn't they?  I mean, after all, this is not Russia or whatever, where they don't even have cornbread.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

The government which governs best governs closest. (And the further the government is from the end citizen, the less it should do, leading to the "governs least" part.)
