Now they're reporting "Ooops, He's still alive."

But probably won't last for long.

In any event, I believe he's a good man, and important to a great many people.  My best wishes for everyone who is concerned about him.  May your faith be a comfort to you.

Peace.

Yep, I am seeing that he is still alive, although probably not for long.

I'm not Catholic, but I know he is important to many.

Yeah, one of my livejournal friends suggested he held his breath and then yelled "April Fool's, b*!@$es!"

I was raised Catholic so I'm allowed to crack wise....Wink

But seriously, the Pope is a good man.  I've been praying for his smooth passage this week.

I'm actually happy for the Pope.  After an extraordinary life, he's now on the threshold of eternity, and I can only imagine the anticipation in Heaven as one of their great ones prepares to come home.  I think he will be canonized in due course, and if I live long enough, perhaps I'll be able to hear him referred to as "Pope Saint John Paul the Great" - he surely deserves both titles!  I'm praying for him, of course, but very much along the lines of "Thank you - now go home and have a wonderful time!".

Peter,
Any thoughts on a succesor?  My money is on the current Cardinal of Paris, Jean Paul Lustiger.  I think a Jewish Pope would provide lots of entertainment.

I find myself moved at the Popes (soon) passing.  This is odd because I am not Roman Catholic and have often found myself at odds with some of the churches teachings.

I think that over time I have appreciated his principled stands on issues that we are in agreement on.

I came of age during Reagans terms and the Pope was already doing his part to help bring down communism.  He also held fast to strong moral convictions and did not waver.  So while I dissagreed on religious and doctrinal issues I appreciated his stands on some of the great issues of his day.

For me as a non catholic and as for many catholics, he is The Pope.  We never really new any one else in his position.

May he rest in peace.

I wonder if he'd insist on kosher Smiley You may get your bagels back yet.

Seriously though, RIP John Paul. Even though I'm not Catholic, he seemed like a great guy who did a lot for humanity and a good representative of Christ.

I'm not Catholic, either.  Actually, I'm not even Christian.  Still, I'm sad to see him go.  But I will not mourn his passing.

I see this as a good reason to celebrate.  He was a good man of firm conviction who dedicated his life to serving his fellow man.  His passing is the perfect time to celebrate his life, and to thank the LORD for giving us such a man.  Let's all say a prayer, raise a glass, or maybe just give a round of applause for this good man.

Well done, faithful servant.

One of the true giants of the 20th century.  Some day the Vatican will write a history of John Paul's participation in the fall of the soviet union.

I put John Paul in the same league as Churchill and Roosevelt.  A true titan among men.

Go peacefully and quietly to your new home.
